Population of Sarawak (2011): 2.42 million

Forest Department Sarawak was established in 1919.

Forest Areas (2007): 8.7 million ha

Permanent Forest Estate (PFE) 6.0 millian ha
Stateland (Forest land not reserved permanently as forests) 1.7 million ha
Totally Protected Area (TPA) 1.0 million ha

Forest Types:

Hill Mixed Dipterocarp Forest 85 %
Peat Swamp Forest 12 %
Mangrove Forest 1 %
Others (Kerangas & Montane Forests) 2 %

Planted Forest Area: (2009) 238,641

Flora: 

Vascular plant flora 8,000 species
Tree species 2,000 species
Orchids 1,000 species
Ferns 757 species
Palms 260 species

Fauna:

Mammal 185 species
Birds 530 species
Snakes 186 species
Lizards 104 species
Amphibians 113 species

Highest peak in Sarawak: Gunung Murud (2,422 metres / 7,946 feet)

Longest river in Sarawak: Sungai Batang Rajang (174 kilometers)
