Other training

Introduction
The Sarawak Forest Department provides in-service training and courses for staff of the Department in the field of basic forestry practices (through the regular courses run by the Forest School) as well as specialized training for staff involved in particular operations. Not only catering for the needs of own Forestry staff, the Department also trains personnel in the industries, such as the timber industry, in various forest-related skills.

The courses conducted include:

Harvesting

Log Tracking Course
This 2-day course is conducted for staff of the Department who are involved in the log tracking system, particularly District Forest Officers, on the basic operation of the system including back-up and restoration of files.
Reduced Impact Harvesting course
This 8-day course is organized to train personnels in the timber industries (as well as Forest Department staff) how to do path logging (including the do's and don'ts rules). A 5-day path logging demonstration course is also organized for timber company personnels (including camp managers, surveyors and block supervisors). The course covers the rationale of the do's and don'ts rules of path logging, ground skid trail marking and construction, directional following and recording of undersized trees along the main skid trails, etc.

Protection

Prosecution Course
This is a 6-day course jointly organized by the Forest Department with ILKAP (Institut Latihan Kehakiman dan Perundangan Malaysia) for officers of the Forest Department and the State Attorney General Office. The objectives of the course are
- to enhance the officers in their understanding concerning their role and authority as prosecuting officers;
- to impart knowledge to officers on how to handle prosecution; and
- to provide practical training on court procedures concerning prosecution.
