Park Management Training Programme - Lincoln International

Background
This programme was initiated to provide training for the staff of the Forest Department, other government agencies and those in tourism related industry in the following areas:-

Objectives
To develop a training programme that will

Target Groups

  1. Staff of Forest Department
  2. Staff from Ministry of Tourism (MOT), Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and private tour agencies
  3. Applicants from Peninsula Malaysia, Sabah and ASEAN countries

Scope
The training emphasizes three principles:

  1. to safeguard the resources against impairment or destruction;
  2. to apply ecological management techniques to neutralize the influence of users;
  3. to plan comprehensively with all parties involved so as to ensure that the park is used in ways appropriate to the delicate balance between conservation and uses.

The Curriculum
Modular Design

After every six weeks, the trainees will go back to work at their stations for at least eight weeks.

Training Courses
The training courses consist of the following:

  1. Training Sessions: where the content may be more conceptual in nature but will have a strong applied focus.
  2. Field Visits: where the main aim will be for the trainees to participate in experimental learning in an environment that is quite familiar to them.
  3. Training Exercises: based on the material in the training session and the field visit, the trainees will be required to deliver a presentation on a special topic.

Entry Qualification
Selection of candidates for training:

  1. minimal 3 years working experience in parks management.
  2. competence in English i.e. writing and speaking.
  3. preferably below 40 years old.
