Kiln Drying Technology

Sawdoctoring Course
Sawdoctoring is a skilled trade involving the maintenance of saws and
related machines in a sawmill. In other words, it is to ensure that the
saws are in good condition so that the sawmill will maintain the quality
and production of timber.

Sawmill Maintenance Course
This course is designed primarily for practising sawmill mechanics and
those who desire to work in sawmills as sawmill mechanics. Upon successful
completion of the course, the trainee is expected to have acquired
sufficient skill and technical knowledge for the satisfactory maintenance
of sawmill machinery.
Timber Moulding Course
This course is a highly specialized trade involving the design and
development of profile knife, maintenance of knives and operation of
moulding machines.
This course is aimed to improve the overall standard of kiln handling,
kiln operation and kiln maintenance. It is designed primarily for practising
as well as prospective kiln operators.

Assessment Examinations
At the end of their training, trainees are assessed both in their
practical skills and theoretical knowledge. Their performances in these
examinations are assigned grades of PASS, FAIL CREDIT or DISTINCTION. These
grades are indicated in the "Certificate of Attendance" which each trainee
will receive upon completion of the training.
Application For Admission and Trainee Selection
Notices inviting applications for enrolment in the training courses are
advertised in local newspapers well in advance of course commencements.
Applications must be submitted on the appropriate forms obtainable from the
offices of the Forest Departments of Sarawak and Sabah.
Applications from other States in Malaysia must be channelled through the office of the State Secretary of Sarawak, whereas applications from outside Malaysia must be made through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia.
Trainees domiciled in Sarawak are exempted from payment of fees whereas the costs of tuition, room and board for participants outside Sarawak will be charged RM5,000 for Sawdoctoring and Sawmill maintenance Courses, RM2,500 for Timber Moulding Course and RM1,000 for Kiln Drying Technology Course.
TRTTC (for Kiln Drying Technology, Wood Preservation and Timber Moulding Courses) and the joint Sarawak-Sabah Committee for Sawmill Training (for Sawdoctoring and Sawmill Maintenance Courses) select trainees for the respective courses. Trainees are selected for admission on the basis of their work experience, qualifications and personal aptitudes. Priority for admission is normally given to applications from sawmill personnel and other wood-based industries in Sarawak and Sabah. However, school leavers with at least SRP/LCE/SPM/STPM or equivalent certificates may also be accepted.
