Wood Technology And Industrial Development Division

Introduction
Timber Research and Technical Training Centre The Wood Technology and Industrial Development Division operates out of two sites in Kuching, namely Timber Research and Technical Training Centre (TRTTC) at Kota Sentosa, and Bintawa Timber Processing Complex (BTPC) at Lot 1403, Jalan Belian, Estet Perindustrian Pending. The forerunner of this Division, i.e. Timber Research Centre, was established in 1970 to promote, encourage and improve the processing of local timber for export as well as for local consumption, and to undertake research into their characteristics, properties and uses. These original objectives remain essentially unchanged to this day given that the objectives of the Division are:

  1. To promote, encourage and improve local processing of Sarawak timber through the provision of technical information, advisory services and technical training in relevant timber processing disciplines; and
  2. To undertake research into various aspects of timber utilisation with a view to enhance the scope and standard of utilisation of local timber species.
