To mark the World Forestry Day celebration on 21 March 2001, the Sarawak Forest Department has launched her upgraded homepage which contains the latest development and issues pertaining to forestry in general and the Department in particular.
YB Assistant Minister of Planning and Resource Management launched the homepage on that day at the Forest Department Headquarters, Wisma Sumber Alam, Petra Jaya, Kuching

The Forest Department website will be of great interest and help to those who intend to visit the Forest recreation centers (national park, wildlife center and nature reserve). Information on the parks and centers including charges and facilities may be printed and bookings can be made through e-mail.

The website contains research as well as collaborative programs conducted by the Department with a list of the Department's numerous research publications which may be of interest to researchers worldwide. There is also an enormous amount of technical information and photographs on natural resource including the protected and totally protected plants and animals of Sarawak for students and others. For those interested in the timber industries, there are figures and links that may be of use. Training opportunities with the Department are also described in the website.

The general public would also find the forest-related ordinances and other information interesting. Of course, there will be latest news and announcements for those concerned with forestry development in Sarawak.

In his message, Mr.Cheong Ek Choon, Director of Forests said, "Apart from its importance to the economy of the State, forestry affects the people in Sarawak in one way or another. Our tropical rainforest is an invaluable resource, and the Forest Department is committed to sustainably manage and develop this resource in Sarawak and optimize its contribution to the socio-economic development of the nation."

The address for this website is http://www.forestry.sarawak.gov.my. General public is encouraged to visit the site and please do not hesitate to e-mail if there be any comment on the Department or on forestry.
